ATTENTION: President Elect Obama Transition Team. The Manhattan Project & Bail Out for U.S. Automakers in Congress NOW.
Following are more details with relevant data on how to convert this nation to a FULLY ELECTRIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM.
(Please GIVE THIS ARTICLE a DIGG after reading to the BOTTOM. The Obama Transition Team is watching to see how many VOTES we GET. Thank You).
FIRST, we must emphasize here that during the transition to a FULLY ELECTRIFIED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM, GM, FORD and CHRYSLER, must remain in business and making enough profit to sustain their obligations to the UAW and their current work force as well as suppliers around the world to STAVE OFF ANOTHER GREAT DEPRESSION.
To that end, below is a picture of TECHNOLOGY that exists today in this country, albeit in too small quantities to make a difference. THIS INTERIM ELECTRIC HYBRID CAR DESIGN is cheap and can be manufactured in QUANTITIES to make a difference by the US AUTOMAKERS within weeks of adopting the Manhattan Project Approach to this country’s problems and ACCEPTING TAXPAYER BAIL OUT MONEYS.
YOU will note the REAR WHEEL ELECTRIC MOTORS that are mounted on both of a car or truck’s rear wheels in a simple and cheap add-on. Sufficient Batteries to ASSIST in the propulsion of the car are installed in the trunk. This simple addition to any car produced today INCREASES GAS MILEAGE almost 100% and is plugged in nightly for a cheap re-charge of batteries. Again, this is technology on hand TODAY. THIS DESIGN needs to be adopted IMMEDIATELY by GM, FORD and CHRYSLER in order to COMPETE with the TOYOTA PRIUS and CIVIC HYBRID. This American Version would sustain AMERICAN CAR COMPANIES during the TRANSITION TO FULLY ELECTRIFIED ROADS and FULLY ELECTRIC-POWERED CARS seen further on in this blog.

NOTE ABOVE a Compact Car with An Electric Motor installed on the REAR WHEELS. Batteries are installed in the trunk of the car and this provides almost DOUBLE the MILEAGE of this vehicle, raising it to that of the PRIUS.
The COST of installation for GM, FORD and CHRYSLER would be less than $2,000 per car. This would result in a RETAIL SALES COST of the car of approx: $20,000 to $22,000, about $2,000 UNDER the RETAIL PRICE of a PRIUS on Average. With NEW FEDERAL TAX CREDITS that the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS PROMISED, the cost of this type of car would be ALMOST FREE,
when considering the COST SAVINGS for MOST DRIVERS.
MILEAGE is almost doubled over the same car under gasoline power alone, OVER the range of the BATTERY CHARGE.
LATER, as Battery Technology is UPGRADED, range of these SAVINGS can DOUBLE and the consumer merely returns to the DEALERSHIP and has his batteries replaced at a nominal cost, thus this model of car is NEVER MADE OBSOLETE. THIS CAR would simply be ADAPTED to FULLY ELECTRIC at the time that enough ROADS have been ELECTRIFIED in the driver’s neck of the woods.
THE LONG TERM GOAL of the MANHATTAN PROJECT for Detroit is to design and manufacture the CAR OF THE FUTURE that will ride on the ELECTRIFIED HIGHWAYS and ROADS of AMERICA seen below. Eventually powered by FREE and , CLEAN SOLAR ENERGY..

THERE IS ENOUGH SOLAR ENERGY FALLING ON THE FREEWAYS of this nation IN ONE HOUR to POWER ALL HOMES, OFFICE BUILDINGS and FACTORIES of
this NATION FOR ONE MONTH. It is our responsibility to BEGIN TAPPING this great and infinite source of energy and that we must begin to do this NOW.
THIS CAR of the FUTURE seen below, will put us on the
RIGHT ROAD.

THIS IS THE BASIC CAR DESIGN, CRUDE as shown here, but the principle is apparent.
This FULLY ELECTRIC CAR would gradually replace the INTERIM HYBRID CAR and would contain an ELECTRIC MOTOR and BATTERIES ONLY, no gasoline would be used in its propulsion.
THE PRACTICALITY OF THIS CONCEPT IS obvious because Batteries may never be found to give a SUFFICIENT ENOUGH range in charge to weight ratio.
WITH the Electrified Roadways concept, a driver merely has to have enough STORED ELECTRICITY to get from his HOME TO HIS NEAREST FREEWAY – DIAMOND LANE ON RAMP, for must of us, less than 5 miles.
THEN, the Electrified Roadway provides ALL THE POWER to get him TWENTY, THIRTY, FIFTY or even ONE HUNDRED MILES FROM HIS HOME without using any battery charge and in fact, when he leaves the ROADWAY, his batteries are FULLY CHARGED once again.
He continues off the GRID, using fully charged batteries for another 5 Miles or so from the FREEWAY TO HIS WORK PLACE.At his workplace, he can RECHARGE AGAIN DURING THE DAY.
THIS SYSTEM MEANS that for most people ONLY SMALL LIGHTWEIGHT BATTERIES are necessary to get him from POINT A to POINT B.
ELECTRIC MOTORS even 100 years ago, are sufficient for today’s requirements and need almost NO MODIFICATION to meet this challenge. However, modern modifications already made in the last few years have made Electric Motors, DURABLE, INEXPENSIVE and HIGHLY RELIABLE as well as MORE POWERFUL with MORE TORQUE POUND FOR POUND than gasoline engines.
AND, we must remember that an ELECTRIC MOTOR PRODUCES ZERO POLLUTANTS without any ancillary anti-pollution controls. They require no coolant or OIL. Electric Motors require far less maintenance and have only a few moving parts.
Therefore, a FULL ELECTRIC VEHICLE PRODUCED IN QUANTITIES can be produced at HALF THE COST of a modern gasoline powered vehicle. THE SAME GOES FOR TRUCKS.
SMALL PICKUP TRUCKS can also be converted to the HYBRID SHOWN ABOVE even more easily than cars, because they have more room in the back for the BATTERY PACK. IN THIS COUNTRY, roughly HALF of all NEW VEHICLE PURCHASES are SMALL TRUCKS.
FUNDING:
Funding of this project TO FRUITION can be done easily from the following sources.
I ESTIMATE the COST of INSTALLING ELECTRIFIED CABLING all over America to be around ONE TRILLION DOLLARS over 5 years. This money could come from
1. A 5 Cent Tax on Gasoline.
2. A $5.00 Fee on All Airline Tickets and Hotel Rooms. $10 for Business Class
3. Increased Excise Fees on items such as Tires and other transportation related products and services.
4.A National registration fee or sales tax on all new car purchases.
Fees are highest for the least gasoline efficient engines to discourage purchase of gas guzzlers and encourage purchase of electric cars which will receive tax credits and subsidies.
5. An Oil Company Alternative Energy Subsidy Tax of 10% of Gross Profits.
6. The closing of all FOREIGN BANK ACCOUNT TAX LOOPHOLES for
American Corporations. By most calculations, a small percentage of this lost Tax Revenue alone could fund the complete transition to Electrified Roads.
7.An increased cigarette, tobacco, alcohol and firearms tax
8.Increased fines on all Federal Highways where drivers are convicted of speeding or causing accidents.
9.Legalizing Marijuana and TAXING IT. This one area alone could fund the entire transition. It would also reduce crime by taking away the Drug Dealers main weapons. By legalizing this product and sold in Government Supervised stores, it can be controlled and the revenues would be in the BILLIONS of DOLLARS per year for the government.
10.PRISON LABOR CAN BE EMPLOYED for the manufacture of parts of the A.E.E. as well as the training of an army of technicians to service it. This would reduce crime and recidivism because a large number of prisoners released into society would have viable jobs and skills.
It would also reduce the cost of many items that the Electrified system would use such as cabling, connectors, electrical components, batteries, etc.
There are something like TEN MILLION PEOPLE rotting away in prisons producing very little for society and the costs to society to house all these people is staggering. We must use the A.E.E. to MODERNIZE the criminal justice system as well as the transportation system.
Modern CIVILIZATION cannot endure with this many of its citizens in a place devoid of hope and no chance of being rehabilitated and rejoining society as productive citizens.
The probability of SUCCESS IS HIGH. But, it can be made even higher if we invite related Industry expertise to JOIN in the MISSION.
I have here a partial list of companies and people that I would invite to JOIN in the PROJECT to ensure success and improve on the cost-effectiveness and time to completion.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.
INVITEES:
1. BOEING AIRCRAFT whose engineers are expert at making vehicles lighter and more streamlined. ALSO included are Lockheed, Grumman Martin and other Aircraft and Pentagon Contractors who are on the cutting edge of technology. Adapting this expertise to fully ELECTRIFIED SURFACE TRANSPORTATION will be a challenge to them, but one that I believe they would enjoy.
2. DISNEY Corporation Designers know how to design things of beauty and help us see the future. Walt Disney himself tried to sell Los Angeles City Council on THE ELECTRIC MONORAIL TRAIN and people movers that are now all over DISNEYLAND and other parks, but they rejected his concept because GM, the Concrete Contractors and TIRE manufacturers bribed them
to build only freeways in L.A., sadly for the future of Southern California. Today, if they had only listened to Disney, Los Angeles would be more like a giant Disney World instead of the concrete car prison it emulates now.
I believe Disney Engineers of their IMAGINARIUM would be very helpful in producing something of an amazing design, such as the MONORAIL, that can be marketed around the world and which everyone would welcome and embrace.
3. Apple Computer and Dell because the ALL-ELECTRIC VEHICLE of the future will have to have a Personal Computer and an IPHONE built in on the Dashboard to help us kill those tedious hours in traffic, HELP US GET WORK DONE ON THE ROAD. There is no better engine for these modern appliances than an electric powered car.
4. Tesla Motors Engineers and other Electric Car companies who already know the limits of the technology and are dreaming about the future if they only had the money. (Tesla is the only electric car company with a 200 Mile battery range in production today.) Their
Ultra-Capacitor could be the device that saves us all.
5. Cutting Edge Battery manufacturers in Europe and elsewhere who have new battery technology already in production or on the drawing board that is lighter, less costly and provides better range between charges.
6. IBM and M.I.T. RESEARCH Facilities have recently announced major breakthroughs in SOLAR POWER OUTPUT that is a factor of TEN TIMES GREATER than currently installed Solar Photo-Voltaics.
7. Silicon Valley Engineers, Freeway Engineers and Electric Utility Contractors because the roads that carry the electric cars of the future will be upgraded to favor electric transport and discourage gasoline propulsion. SEE SOLAR DIAMOND LANE ABOVE.
IN THE ELECTRIFIED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM above, we start with a FEW HUNDRED MILES of TEST ROADS on the EAST COAST and in SOUTHERN and NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.
Silicon Valley is highly congested with traffic currently and this area should be one of the FIRST PILOT PROJECTS, because the ENGINEERING BRAINPOWER of this country is concentrated here. Driving along these PILOT HIWAYS would inspire and encourage them to use their combined brain power to improve the OVERALL DESIGN and bring new perspectives on it that are unknown today.
THE INTERNET is the INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY, so the engineers of this INFORMATION superhighway can be very useful in designing the ELECTRIFIED SUPERHIGHWAY, many in their current positions and jobs.
AS MORE AND MORE CARS are purchased that connect to the GRID, MILES can be extended, thus producing more demand for the cars.
As MILLIONS more consumers convert to Electric Powered Vehicles, the number of batteries in their cars can be reduced because the NEW ELECTRIC GRID will eventually reach outside their driveway. MOST every home in America Today receives electricity from OVERHEAD WIRING or underground in the city street.
Gradually adapting this wiring to add the Electric Power Cables is the kind of Infra-Structure change that is LEAST EXPENSIVE and most Cost-Effective than any other infrastructure build out. This is similar in expense and difficulty to a CABLE TV BUILD OUT. Eventually,
nearly EVERY HOME is REACHED by the OVERHEAD ELECTRIFIED ROADWAY.
Gradually, the return on investment by the economy can be made to bring the electrified roadways to every road in America by the year 2030.At that point, since the vast majority of cars and trucks are running 90% of the time on Electricity, there is no more pollution, no more importation of oil and gasoline, the streets are quieter and safer and GLOBAL WARMING IS THING OF THE PAST since we no longer have a CARBON FOOTPRINT.
T. Boone Pickens’ concept of using Wind and Natural Gas as a BRIDGE to using SOLAR POWER is a good one that can be employed here since SUFFICIENT QUANTITIES of NATURAL GAS are still available in North America.
HOWEVER, I would also like to see Clean Coal and Nuclear Energy also employed since it is also freely available in this country. AND, part of the MANHATTAN PROJECT could be used to find a way to RECYCLE NUCLEAR WASTE so that it is no longer the main ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN in using Nuclear Power.
AS American CONVERTS to ELECTRICITY more work will need to be done on the supply side of electricity production and the CLEAN and SAFE source of that energy, but that comes along Naturally as our project produces the breakthroughs in the supply side as well as the demand side of the equation.
8. Nuclear Energy Industry leaders such as GE, and others in Europe because The Electric Roadways of the future will need energy that is CLEAN and CHEAP
9. Tire Manufacturers such as GOODYEAR and MICHELIN and their researchers because the Electric Car of the future will need FAR LESS ROLLING RESISTANCE than
what present tires give us, thus requiring less power to drive them. Also, a smoother, less resistant road surface will cut down on friction and drag, thus even CONCRETE ENGINEERS will be consulted.
10.Electric Motor and Wheel Manufacturers. EUROPEAN CAR and WHEEL MANUFACTURERS have recently DESIGNED and tested A WHEEL and ELECTRIC MOTOR COMBINATION that is highly efficient and uses FAR LESS ENERGY to drive the vehicle. When, these wheels are braking they use REGENERATIVE BRAKING to also recharge the battery and the loss of energy through the transmission is obviated.
11. Solar-Cell and photovoltaic Panel Designers. The Electric Car of the future has solar cells all over the outside skin of the vehicle, using the sun’s energy to keep batteries charging. The Toyota Prius in their 2010 model has a Photo Voltaic cell in the roof to power the Air Conditioning. In the future, the solar cells will be strong enough to power the entire vehicle
propulsion as well.
12.Bicycle and Motor Scooter Manufacturers such as GIANT. Vespa and RALEIGH who are expert in designing efficient and lightweight transmission of energy from human power to the bicycle. One element of our Fully Electric Car may be that it may eventually have the power output per pound of a bicycle, and yet still have the full safety of the modern car or
truck. We will need to design lighter weight seats, radios, cooling and heating systems, windows, etc.
13.NASA. We have to think of this vehicle of the
future as a SPACE VEHICLE. We will need to learn how NASA thinks about PAYLOAD weight vs. Propulsion Thrust and all the other laws of physics.
14. Have you ever gone to an AMUSEMENT PARK and had fun in the BUMPER CARS? They have been in use for over a CENTURY and they PROVE the technology. Therefore, BUMPER CAR Companies will be invited to the project.

SUMMARY:
A concerted effort should be made IMMEDIATELY to endorse and plan the ALTERNATIVE ENERGY ECONOMY (A.E.E.) a MANHATTAN PROJECT for the US AUTOMAKERS in return for Taxpayer Bail Out Moneys.
It is both practical and logical that we do this NOW at this point in our flagging economy. As President Elect Obama has recently stated, we need to stimulate the creation and/or saving of at least 2.5 Million Jobs over the next 2 to 3 years in order to stave off another Great Depression.
At the same time, we need to focus our attention on NATIONAL SECURITY, which means allowing far less of our money to flow into the hands of terrorists and other foreign Anti-American and Anti-Western forces, which we have been doing for decades via the IMPORTATION
OF OIL.
Most importantly, perhaps, we must also begin to be GOOD STEWARDS of the EARTH. Mankind has done more damage to our Mother Earth than any other creature in all of Natural History and it’s time we started GIVING BACK to the Earth.
THIS PROJECT WOULD ACCOMPLISH all of the above and I believe it would create many more than 2.5 Million jobs, eventually exceeding more than TEN MILLION JOBS because RELATED INDUSTRIES will bloom out of nothing and flourish as we develop the TRAINS of the FUTURE, the PLANES of the FUTURE, the INTERNET of the FUTURE, all of which will go to make up AMERICA 2.0, a country that can and MUST BECOME the WORLD’S LEADER and return to being the LAST BEST HOPE for Mankind.

AFTER THOUGHTS.
The key is to SAVE and CREATE 2.5 Million Jobs and we accomplish that by having a FIRST VERSION that is produced immediately and another FULL Version made later.
Secondly: President John F. Kennedy challenged this nation to put a MAN ON THE MOON, by the end of the decade and it was accomplished one year ahead of schedule. We now have a President who can challenge us to PUT A MAN and a WOMAN IN AN ELECTRIC CAR by the end of this decade and I believe it can be done a year ahead of that schedule.
