The Manhattan Project for U.S. Automakers

The eventual goal of the Project will be to build out SPECIALLY ADAPTED SOLAR-POWERED-ELECTRIFIED Diamond Lanes in cities and towns across America. 

THIS to POWER the Fully Electric Car of the FUTURE, that the Detroit Automakers can start to build within weeks of its adoption.

This will take a few years, THEREFORE, SEE BELOW the model for A Transitional Car.  It is an electric HYBRID that is merely adapted to any car in production today.  The equipment for this hybrid car would cost only a few hundreds of dollars to the retail price of current American models.  It is produced current IN AMERICA in small quantities.  Therefore Detroit only needs to ramp up current production to begin COMPETING AGAINST the PRIUS very favorably.

NOTE that ONLY the rear wheels have been adapted with TWO ELECTRIC MOTORS to push while the Gasoline Engine in the FRONT PULLS the vehicle.  The electric power in the rear, produces the same mileage or greater than a Toyota Prius at competitive pricing.

This concept only needs to be ramped up to mass production capacity that DETROIT HAS IN ABUNDANCE and LAYING IDLE at the moment.

Batteries are installed in the trunk and are recharged overnight.  Total COST TO ADD THIS TO DETROIT AUTOS:  $2,000 Per Car.

THIS IS ONLY THE BRIDGE to the future and this car would be produced to save jobs in the SHORT TERM.  Over the next few years, THE LONG TERM GOAL is for the BIG THREE to produce the FULLY ELECTRIC CAR and TRUCK by 2010.  This can be done with PRESENT TECHNOLOGY again, but with a slight change in the way we perceive the use of DIAMOND LANES.

 

The main impediment to this long sought after goal is current BATTERY technology.  No current battery is affordable, light weight and holds enough charge to give the range that today’s vehicles require.  BY ELCTRIFYING the DIAMOND LANES in American Highways, we completely ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM.

 We can easily and quickly ADAPT the DIAMOND LANES to propel all cars and trucks using AN OLD TRANSPORTATION CONCEPT DESIGNED originally in 1882 and still in use today by TROLLEY BUSES. 

Drivers steer their cars and trucks onto the Diamond Lanes, or Electrified Diamond Lanes and their capacitors and batteries are RECHARGED AS THEY DRIVE, thus giving the FULLY ELECTRIC POWERED VEHICLES, CARS AND TRUCKS UNLIMITED RANGE.  This method eliminates the need for heavy and costly battery packs in the electric cars, as they only have to travel a few miles to reach the nearest ONRAMP.

DETROIT’S ONLY ELECTRIC CAR on the horizon is the Chevy Volt that is merely a WORK AROUND for the LICENSE FEES that they are forced to pay to JAPAN for the PRIUS technology.  It is basically a GENERATOR in the front of the car that charges the batteries.  This technology is not even half as good as the PRIUS and will cost TWICE AS MUCH and they will still LOSE MONEY ON IT.  Not much in return for the 25 BILLION they are asking for NOW and most likely MORE LATER. 

By ELECTRIFYING the DIAMOND LANES, this nation and our Industrial Base takes a GIANT LEAP FORWARD in modern transportation.  In the future as Solar Technology improves, we can place Solar Panels above the OVERHEAD ELECTRIC PANELS, and this would GENERATE ENOUGH FREE and RENEWABLE ENERGY to power the country’s entire transportation system INCLUDING THE BIG RIGS, and then later all homes and businesses in America as well.  There is enough SOLAR ENERGY FALLING on the Freeways of America every day to POWER the ENTIRE COUNTRY for ONE MONTH if we only tapped it.

THIS WOULD COMPLETELY ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR FOREIGN OIL IN 5 YEARS as the nation’s fleet of cars and trucks are converted to electric propulsion.

WITH MODERN CAPACITORS it is not necessary to STAY connected to the Charging Overhead Wires for more than a mile or two and then the vehicle can retract the connecting pole and go another 20 miles or so on a full charge.  This extends the distance for an electric car INFINITELY once all freeways are electrified.

The ELECTRIC CAR that DETROIT CAN MANUFACTURE IN ONE YEAR, would simply raise a boom to connect to the overhead charging system as needed.  With Ultra Capacitors it may be necessary to do BE CONNECTED ONLY FOR FEW HUNDRED YARDS for every TEN MILES DRIVEN and have the car or truck batteries remain fully charged enough to leave the FREEWAY and continue on to its final destination off the grid using the battery that is now FULLY CHARGED BY THE ROADWAY.  Same process repeats to get home.

THIS SYSTEM could also be adapted later to control all traffic speed and direction of all vehicles on the roads, thus eliminating accidents on the nation’s Freeways and Highways.

This could also provide drivers with entertainment and work productivity via their personal computer installed in and made an integral part of these cars of the future.

THIS IS JUST THE OPENING ROUNDS of the MANHATTAN PROJECT

 

WE MAY BE ABLE TO DEVISE UNDERGROUND CHARGING SYSTEM to replace OVERHEAD WIRES as I HAVE CONCEIVED HERE.

CONGRESS asked the Auto Makers for A PLAN in order to get their money.  ALL they could come up with was that THEY NEEDED THE MONEY TO CONTINUE DOING WHAT THEY’RE DOING NOW.  THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO THE TAXPAYERS.  WE MUST HAVE MORE BANG FOR OUR BUCK – SUCH AS THIS METHOD OF FORCING THEM TO HELP BUILD THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE FUTURE.

THIS IS THE PLAN that I believe strongly holds the greatest promise for the future and would GIVE THE TAXPAYER THE HIGHEST Return on their investment.  HAVING A MANHATTAN PROJECT TYPE OF APPROACH in Detroit would bring together all the talent of the world to Make THIS PLAN EVEN BETTER and more practical.

This plan would essentially forge the DIAMOND LANES into the Battery of INFINITE STORAGE POWER that is the only missing link in Full Electric Vehicle Technology. 

EVERYTHING in this plan is achievable now, with very little effort, and low expense per mile.  It could all be funded with a modest increase in gasoline tax and other funding methods that I have in mind.  NO BAIL OUT MONEYS WOULD BE NEEDED.

 

The building of this modern Infrastructure that must be done in every city, every state in the union and then later connecting them all by these Electric Diamond Lanes would SAVE THE ECONOMY, SAVE THE COUNTRY and SAVE THE PLANET all in one master stroke.

 

Ironically, this technology was employed FIRST in Berlin Germany in 1882, so it’s a question of an old idea becoming a New Idea again, only different.
